BC Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program

 This program provides coupons for local farmer’s markets, increasing access to healthy, local food.

Nanaimo Foodshare Societys proud to be a community partner working with the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (BCFMNCP) in partnership with the Island Roots Market at Beban Park. This 16-week program offers eligible participants weekly coupons with a cash value of $27, to be spent at a local farmers market on fresh produce, eggs, meat, fish, cut herbs, dairy products and more.

To be eligible to access the program, someone in your household must be:

• A senior, have children under 19 at home, or be pregnant;
• Identify as having a low-income;
• Demonstrate a connection to a food skills program or express interest in participating in one.

In the 2022-23 fiscal year, this program provided $64,800 worth of coupons to low income families/seniors in the community. The coupons are spent with local farmers at the Island Roots Market and other local farmers markets.

The 2024 program will run from June 5th – September 18th, 2024 with space for 140 participants.  The program and waitlist are currently full for this year.
