Homegrown
Home Grown is an agriculture- and food-based employment program for youth (ages 15-30). The 18-week program (10 weeks of class learning, the education component and 8 weeks of work experience) consists of paid onsite training, workshops and certification training along with eight weeks of paid quality work experience in the community. The participants are paid $17.40 per hours for time spent in class. Through skills training and group activities, with on-going support and paid work experience, we give youth the opportunity to find success in the workforce.
Eligibility:
The program is available to those who self-identify as:
- Vulnerable youth
- Having diverse abilities
- Low-income
- In care or aging out of care.
Training opportunities may include:
- Essential employment skills including interpersonal communication, conflict resolution and team building
- Resume and cover letter writing
- Interview skills
- FoodSafe Level 1
- Serving it Right
- First Aid
- WHMIS
- Basic food preparation and safe food handling skills
- Basic agriculture skills
