BC Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program

This program provides coupons for local farmer’s markets, increasing access to healthy, local food.

Nanaimo Foodshare Societys proud to be a community partner working with the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (BCFMNCP) in partnership with the Island Roots Market at Beban Park. This 16-week program offers eligible participants weekly coupons with a cash value of $27, to be spent at a local farmers market on fresh produce, eggs, meat, fish, cut herbs, dairy products and more.

To be eligible to access the program, someone in your household must be:

• A senior, have children under 19 at home, or be pregnant;
• Identify as having a low-income

In the 2024-25 fiscal year, this program provided $64,314 worth of coupons to low income families/seniors in the community. The coupons are spent with local farmers at the Island Roots Market and other local farmers markets.

Applications are now officially closed as of May 19, 2026 at 12:00 PM.

We are grateful for the strong community interest in this program. Due to limited availability, 147 participants will be selected through a random draw from all qualified applicants. This process helps ensure fairness and transparency for everyone who applied.

Selected applicants will be contacted by phone or email by June 5, 2026.
