BC Farmers Market Nutrition Coupon Program

This program provides coupons for local farmer’s markets, increasing access to healthy, local food.

Nanaimo Foodshare Societys proud to be a community partner working with the BC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Coupon Program (BCFMNCP) in partnership with the Island Roots Market at Beban Park. This 16-week program offers eligible participants weekly coupons with a cash value of $27, to be spent at a local farmers market on fresh produce, eggs, meat, fish, cut herbs, dairy products and more.

To be eligible to access the program, someone in your household must be:

• A senior, have children under 19 at home, or be pregnant;
• Identify as having a low-income

In the 2023-24 fiscal year, this program provided $63,504 worth of coupons to low income families/seniors in the community. The coupons are spent with local farmers at the Island Roots Market and other local farmers markets.

2025 BC Farmer’s Market Coupon Program

Applications window for the 2025 program is closed now. We have already filled up 147 spots using a random draw of all qualified applicants. Thank you all for participating.
