Thank you! Thank You!! Thank You!!!
Your support and contributions towards protecting the 5 Acres Farm have been successful!
On September 12, 2019, the City of Nanaimo announced it would purchase Five Acres Farm. Then, on September 30th, 2019, title to the farm was transferred to the City of Nanaimo, and Nanaimo Foodshare Society now has an agreement to continue farming and providing educational programs on the property. Your donations of funds and volunteer time were essential in demonstrating the widespread support for this project in our community.
Next Steps
Nanaimo Foodshare is committed to exploring options for renovations to the farmhouse and property to create a new Centre for Food Security and Sustainability. Over the next two years, community consultations will be held by the City and Foodshare to determine the best options for this property to be transformed into an urban farm/park. We welcome your participation in this consultation process. A trust fund has been established for all monies raised in support of the Five Acres Farm, to be used once the public consultations have resulted in an approved parks plan.
Thanks again for all your support! Stay tuned for ways to be involved in the public consultation sessions through our contact list. If you wish to be on the list, and you have not already registered, please subscribe for updates
